WestJet has dropped the price of their flights from Edmonton to Halifax, Nova Scotia down to between $270 and $451 CAD roundtrip including taxes. The flights are nonstop both ways. I consider $270 roundtrip to be WestJet's clickbait (CB) price because it doesn't include checked luggage or carry-on. Not exactly a realistic way to travel. It's a price offered primarily to appear to be the cheapest in search engines and then upsell you. $451 roundtrip is the more realistic price because at least it includes checked luggage. But those with the WestJet World Elite credit card can take advantage of the clickbait price as it includes free checked luggage.

Vice-versa flights (Halifax to Edmonton) are also available for a similar roundtrip price.

UPDATE: A few dates in early May are cheap.

How to find and book this deal

1. Start with the following Google Flights search: Google Flights: Edmonton to Halifax, Nova Scotia - Click on the departure date box to open up the calendar view. - Explore for the cheapest dates by adjusting the trip length at the bottom. - Look for the dates that are $349 roundtrip.

2. At this point, there are a few different ways you can book these flights...

For $270 roundtrip. This includes *only* a personal item (something that can fit under the seat in front of you). - Those with the WestJet World Elite credit card can still bring free checked bags and may find this fare useful. - To book this price go to Skyscanner or Kayak - Try the same dates you found on Google Flights.

*OR*

For $451 roundtrip. This includes a personal item and a checked bag. But not carry-on. - To book this price click through from Google Flights to the WestJet website using the 'Ultrabasic' fare. - While clicking through, you may notice that under 'Ultrabasic' Google Flights shows a checked bag as $147. This is incorrect. Once you click through to the WestJet website and go through a few pages into the booking process you'll see that you can add a checked bag for $102 roundtrip.

*OR*

For $479 roundtrip. This includes a personal item and carry-on. - To book this price click through from Google Flights to the WestJet website using the 'Econo' fare.

Note that Edmonton now has nonstop flights from Edmonton to Iceland, once a week, starting in late June. There are a couple of July dates available for $650 roundtrip.

UPDATE: While there are no longer any 1 stop flights in the $500s roundtrip, there are still a few nonstop flights in late June and July for $672 roundtrip.

WestJet has dropped the price of their flights from Edmonton to Madrid, Spain down to $613 CAD roundtrip including taxes. The flights have 1 stop in Halifax each way. You can also find flights from Edmonton to Lisbon, Portugal for $637 roundtrip in the same months - but the Lisbon flights have a 7 hour layover on the way there.

Personally I would focus on June, September, and October, unless you love scorching heat! One way flights from Edmonton to Madrid or Lisbon are also available for ~$330 CAD.

UPDATE: Madrid is not currently cheap, but Edmonton to Lisbon flights are available for $646 roundtrip between May and October.
