Similar to the Madagascar fares, there are also some highly unusual fares from Edmonton to Mauritius. It's another destination that generally costs a minimum of $2,000 to get to.
And like Madagascar, Mauritius is a long, long ways away from Edmonton!
I've never been to Mauritius, but from the pictures I've seen, it looks pretty incredible. It reminds me a bit of Bora Bora.
Unlike Bora Bora however, rooms don't cost $600/night in Mauritius. A glance at Airbnb shows that the average rental in Mauritius is a much more reasonable $133 CAD /night.
The flights are incredibly long, with overnight stays sometimes required.

Note that January to March is Mauritius's wet/cyclone season. These are the 3 months to avoid.
The island has a classic tropical climate with warm weather year-round. Even in winter, from May to October, the temperature drops from hot to balmy. During summer, from November to April, the days are hot and humid.
