All Nippon Airways is showing 2-in-1 flights that allow you to spend time in both Tokyo, Japan and Hong Kong for $643 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
You would fly from Edmonton to Tokyo, Japan (spend time there) and then fly from Tokyo to Hong Kong (spend time there), and then fly home from Hong Kong to Edmonton.
All Nippon Airways (ANA) is a very good airline, ranked #3 in the world last year.
The flights are into Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) - which is the one closer to downtown Tokyo.
Is it possible to just fly to Japan for this price and forget about Hong Kong?
You can't completely eliminate Hong Kong, but in some cases you can minimize the time spent in Hong Kong down to 1 or 2 nights.
Update @ 1 PM MST - It looks like this could be over. These are now showing up as $743 on Google Flights, but jumping up to nearly $1000 when you click through to Expedia. Similar to the 2-in-1 trips with Taiwan, these ANA price drops seemed to last for about half a day.

You can also try playing around with the start and end dates to make the overall trip shorter or longer. I would focus on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday dates.
