Edmonton to Tokyo, Japan - $637 to $787 CAD roundtrip including taxes
13
July
WestJet is showing flights from Edmonton to Tokyo, Japan for between $637 and $787 CAD roundtrip including taxes.
The flights have 1 stop in Calgary each way.
Update Sunday @ 2:30 PM MST
Sorry that I could not update earlier. The fallout happened just as I was leaving for a camping trip, and I did not have Internet during the weekend.
On Friday evening, WestJet cancelled these tickets, despite the fact that tickets had already been issued.
Personally, I think either WestJet or one of their data providers is to blame here (they are blaming each other). FlightHub is just caught in the middle. I was seeing similar price errors coming from WestJet on EasyJet's website during the same period of time, which FlightHub has no involvement with.
About the only thing that can help in this situation is media coverage. Some of you may recall WestJet changing their mind and deciding to honour the fares they cancelled during the SellOffVacations / WestJet error fares in February of 2020. But then of course the pandemic hit, and most didn't get a chance to use them anyways.

Site keeps saying "We are unable to complete your reservation due to a system error. Sorry for the inconvenience" Guess too many people are on there.
Thanks Hoinam, it's possible they're pulling these from the system. They might be an error.
Many of these fares still appear to exist- but the "taxes" now magically equal the airfare. How does the government taxes and airport fees and fuel charges for the exact same flights on the exact same day increase by 10x from ~$71 to over $700 unless it's a Flighthub scam?
On Jul 13, 2023 evening, I booked YEG-NRT for May 3 to 16, 2024. Confirmed on Flighthub. On Jul 14 afternoon, used Flighthub’s Chat to get 6-letter Westjet code. It worked on WJ site and I can see the reservation on WJ website. I checked my credit card activities, says pending $687.45.
Today evening (Jul 14, 2023), when I visited WJ site and entered my code, trip not found. Also no charges showing up on my credit card activities.
WJ basically did not honor anything, frustrating!
Just received this email from FlightHub:
Important Information
Dear Customer,
We regret to inform you that WestJet has requested us to cancel your reservation as result of a third-party error that occurred during the booking process. A full refund will be processed back to the original form of payment within the next few business days.
Please find below an official statement provided by WestJet regarding the cancellation of your reservation.
Hello,
We regret to inform you that we are unable to honor your recent booking.
As a result of a third-party error, WestJet fares were mistakenly advertised and cannot be honoured. As such, we are canceling your booking.
We apologize for this inconvenience.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this matter.
WestJet
We thank for your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience.
Your FlightHub Customer Service Team.
So disappointed. We also booked YEG-NRT on May 3 to 16 as well (purchased July 13). Received confirmation codes from Flighthub a few minutes after transaction went through.
This evening (July 14), we received an email from Flighthub stating, "We regret to inform you that we are unable to honor your recent booking. As a result of a third-party error, WestJet fares were mistakenly advertised and cannot be honoured. As such, we are canceling your booking. We apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this matter.".
=(
Same thing happened to my partner and I, we booked in the morning then received an email saying our flights were cancelled due to a third-party error. I wonder if it's all dates or certain dates. We had book for April 12th to May 2nd.
Super dissapointed in WestJet and FlightHub
We booked April 4-22 and got the same cancellation message.
Very disappointed with Westjet lately. Had a $430 credit from last year (2022) due to couple of refunds for cancellation from July 2022. They put this credit in my “Travel Bank”. I knew I had 1 year to use it. I just missed it by few days, I tried to book a WJ flight, and noticed $0 in my “Travel Bank”. I know it was my fault that I did not use it within 365 days, but there was NO warning email, that this $430 credit will disappear in 1 month on 1 week. When I called them, they said there is nothing in the “Travel Bank” for them to work on. Again, I agree, that it was my mistake, I should have called them before 365 days to get an extension. But, please, in these days of high-tech IT, atleast please send a reminder email before the credit amount disappears from their customers’s so-called “Travel Bank”. Very disappointed with Westjet lately! They have to do something about warning customers before the credits become invalud. It’s like silent stealing.
Booked YEG-NRT for Apr 12 to May 2 on Jul 14 and received the same email candelling the booking. So very disappointing indeed.
We booked for May 17-30, 2024 and also got the same email cancelling the trip as well! :( Very disappointed!
did anyone call flight hub or westjet to try to get something? obv. not just a flight hub issue. this was a pricing error on westjet part. they should have let the booking go through.
Reached to FlightHub via chat (can't find a phone number).
This is what they said
"We regret to inform you that the Booking didn't go through. If you have any further questions as to why the transaction didn't go through, we strongly recommend that you contact WestJet directly to get further information."
"I'm sorry to inform you that there's no data for the booking since it was canceled. However, when you contact the airline they will be able to search by your first and last name."
"we're afraid to inform you that the issue is from the airline side."
Flight hub is very much blaming WestJet for this.
Finally was able to speak with a WestJet agent after trying to find an IVR option to reach the call center. I had to select that this was a direct WestJet booking and that I wanted to cancel.
The agent was very friendly and was aware of the issue as there was a notice sent out to the call center regarding what happened.
To find my booking without a booking number they needed the E-ticket number. And on their screen it just shows as void.
Based on their internal notice they are saying it was an error on FlightHub's part. That they are the 3rd party with the error. That they are poorly trained and when they entered the pricing they omitted a portion of tax. This is why the pricing on FlightHub was much lower than on the WestJet site.
WestJet is basically saying it is FlightHub's fault.
I would be curious as to how they would explain the fact that unusually low prices to Europe through WestJet were also showing up on EasyJet's website on the same day. EasyJet has no relationship with FlightHub. Seems like quite a coincidence.
Geez. I was quick to blame FlightHub, but maybe this is WestJet's fault.
I did compare the pricing with WestJet's own website right after I completed my FlightHub booking and WestJet pricing was clearly higher.
Well this is an adventure.
Got a callback from FH supervisor. We did a conference call with WJ and escalated to a supervisor.
Westjet is claiming the error is due to FareLogix/Accelya. This is the 3rd party. Since WestJet did not advertise the price themselves and it was the travel agencies that did, WJ absolves themselves of all responsibilities.
FH is saying that if it was FareLogix that was the error, why did WJ invalidate the reservations. FH is still saying it was a WJ error and is using FareLogix as the scapegoat.
There is no guidance on how to hold FareLogix responsible. There is no info from the 2 supervisors on who hired/pays for FareLogix.
I feel that if WJ is the one that utilizes FareLogix so they can work with travel agencies, then this should be on them. But if FareLogix just scrapes the pricing info and it is just travel agencies that uses FareLogix software then it should be on FH. Someone must pay for FareLogix, the question is who does FareLogix work for?
Yes, what happened this Friday is nearly identical to the SellOffVacations / WestJet incident in 2020.
Here's a comment from the 2020 incident:
"WestJet just called to say they will be cancelling all the flights and blaming it on a company named Farelogix (a company that WestJet uses to post their fares to third party sellers such as Sell Off Vacations) saying that they distributed prices where the taxes weren't calculated correctly. Even after WestJet clearly told us if a price is posted online there is nothing they can do about it and it is illegal to not honor it. We should all work together on social media to make some noise..."
And here we are in 2023..
"Friends of mine who work at Westjet have screen shot and sent me what their supervisors told them to tell customers. WestJet claims that surcharges were not being applied correctly due to a FareLogix system error. Farelogix is an IT Provider whose singular focus is to build and deliver innovative and cost efficient NDC-aligned, airline-controlled offer and order management distribution technology as a result, guests were temporarily able to book low fares"
Link to the blog post of the 2020 incident.
Based on this info, where do we go from here?
How do we get WestJet to listen and honour the prices they advertised with their vendor, FareLogix?
What recourse do we have?
To keep things altogether I'm going to continue my updates on the London, Paris, Ireland deal from last weekend
