Huge fare war from Edmonton to Amsterdam - $665 roundtrip after taxes - affecting fares up to May 2012

There's a huge fare war to Amsterdam (AMS) going on at the moment. It's extremely rare to see the major airlines drop a price to Europe like this from Edmonton that affects such a large range of dates. Actually, it's extremely rare to see a price drop to Europe from Edmonton, period.
They look to have dropped the price of most flights that occur between now and mid-May 2012.
Here's how to find them...
1. Go to https://www.kayak.com
2. Do a 3 day flexible date search for a roundtrip flight from Edmonton to Amsterdam that occurs between now and May 15, 2012.
3. The airlines involved in this fare war appear to be Air Canada and United/Continental. Some of the flights have good routings, some don't.
What you want to do after your search on Kayak is click on the dropdown menu beside 'Sort' and choose 'Duration (short to long)'.
Next, you'll want to use the price slider on the left hand side and bring it down to $700 or so. Now you're looking at the fastest flights that are under $700 roundtrip after taxes.
Here's an example search in May 2012 to get you started:

Of course you can also use this as a 'gateway' flight to get somewhere else cheaply in Europe. Plenty of low-cost carriers have flights from Amsterdam.

Booked March 10 - March 24 just under $686 :) Thanks!
Awesome, have fun Steven!
But does it have to be roundtrip to get the pricing? (Am thinking of it as a gateway flight.)
Looks like it's actually cheaper than a one way flight. You could always book it as a roundtrip and skip the leg coming home.
How long does this type of sale typically last for?
I plan on using it, but do I have to book it today/tomorrow?
Or could I decide by friday?
Thanks!
Hi Rob,
It's always hard to say, but typically United drops don't last very long (24-48 hours). I've also heard that this one might be put back up tonight.
It actually dropped around Saturday, but I was away on a short trip to the Dominican over the weekend and wasn't able to post it until today.
$665 is cheap. Considering I've paid close to a grand to fly to London a few years ago.
Word of advice to some, its always cheaper to go via the US.
No huge fuel surcharges AC tacks on, airport improvement fees...etc
If you can, fly on points to Seattle then look at fares from there. We get screwed here @ YEG
Its not that cheap anymore. :( I just looked for May and it is around 1200$.
